Put Hand Hygiene Where People Actually Need It
A handwashing station is most useful when it is visible, easy to reach, and placed in the flow of the people using the temporary restrooms. It can support a party, community event, food-service area, renovation, or construction site without asking users to search for a permanent sink.

Choose the location by behavior
For events, consider the restroom exit, food service, beverage tables, children’s activities, and natural walking direction. For construction, consider the site entrance, break area, and route workers use after leaving the restroom.
Make the station easy to understand
Place it where people can see it before they need it. Keep soap and paper-towel access unobstructed, and let the site point person know who will monitor the area.
Coordinate with the restroom plan
A station should complement, not compromise, the route to an accessible restroom. Keep it clear of food preparation surfaces, walls, and parked vehicles.
